Background
San Francisco Regional Sports Car Club of America (SRF SCCA) organizes and operates amateur road races and autocross events in Northern California. SFR SCCA has been in existence for nearly 60 years and has a rich history of road racing, solo competition and concours d'elegance.
Their website began nearly 10 years ago and contained approximately 10,000 files! The existing site had little to no consistency throughout, leaving the end users often frustrated and the administrators at a loss as to which pages to update and how.
Critical Issues
A significant issue that faced Chico Web Design and SFR SCCA was to successfully migrate 10,000 files of content from the legacy website to the new dynamically driven content management solution.
Another major topic that needed to be addressed was the navigation and sub-navigation throughout the site. The existing site had many navigational inconsistencies, which led the end user to become frustrated.
Last but not least, SFR SCCA had to have a solution which allowed them to update their content. Maintaining their content in the past proved to be demanding due to the lack of site structure and understanding of in-depth HTML coding.
Our Solution
After Chico Web Design designed a completely new look and feel for SFR SCCA, the migration of the content from the legacy system to the new website and content management solution begun. Countless scripts were written to recognize patterns; HTML code was stripped when necessary, image paths where replaced, and custom sections of the site had to be redefined. Existing functionality such as a track record databases and calendar of events had to be moved as well.
Once Chico Web Design had workable content, we began the task of integrating it with the content management solution. The content management solution has the ability to create, maintain, and delete any content, navigational items, pictures, events, and it will control virtually 100% of the content on the site. The content management solution utilizes very user-friendly interfaces which allows anyone with computer skills, such as Microsoft Word, to maintain a 10k page website!
Along with the data migration and content management integration, it was time for a navigation overhaul! The legacy site was stripped down to it’s core functions and flow charts where developed for the new site so it would have a reliable navigation and sub-navigation structure.
Overall, Chico Web Design successfully re-designed the look and feel for SFR SCCA and migrated their legacy content into an easy to use content management system.
